Xu Heng, a celebrated scholar in China's Yuan Dynasty, felt intolerably thirsty on his way to his destination. Someone nearby advised him to pick some pears from a roadside tree to quench his thirst, but he refused point-blank to do so. Passersby laughed at him, regarding his refusal as a manifestation of pedantry. But he retorted, saying "The pear tree may not have an owner, but I have principles of my own." It is this story about a gentleman righteously refusing to pick pears that were not his own that has inspired the design of this Pear Image Teaset. The teapot lid and its body form a mellow and full "pear", with the simple and smooth profile lines looking as if they had been created by nature. Pear Shadow Zisha Teapot perfectly portrays the sleek outline of a pear.
